My name is
Lisa Brown, and welcome to my site. My goal is to help
others find the path to living an excellent life. Why?
Because I happen to be on that road myself; I believe I
am called to it.
“Live excellently!” was my classroom motto when I taught
fifth grade at Covenant Classical School in Fort Worth,
TX. My first year there I kept “Pursue Excellence”
written on the whiteboard at the front of the room as a
continual reminder to my students. Then, after
re-reading a little gem titled The Presence of the
Kingdom by Jacques Ellul, I changed the motto to
“Live Excellently!”. I wanted the children to understand
that God calls us to pursue excellence in all of life,
not just in the classroom.
Chew on these tidbits from The Presence of the
Kingdom:
What
is this ‘spiritual life’ which is ‘life indeed’? It
means to live by truths of the catechism whose
living depths we can never fathom: Men created in
the Image of God; judged and condemned by Divine
justice; pardoned and saved by His love; a creature,
unique and irreplaceable (man has become unique
because the Son of God has died for each of his
creatures; because each soul is called to Christian
liberty, in a life of holiness, and thus rediscovers
a life which is truly ‘free,’ because it is lived to
the glory of the Creator) called to be renewed in
his mind, and to bear within himself the truth of
God: ‘Know ye not that your body is a temple of the
Holy Ghost?’ Called to judge all things, for ‘we
shall judge angels,’ and to participate in the
glorious coming of the Lord of lords. All this comes
from the life of the Holy Spirit within us: ‘We know
that we have passed out of death into life.’ There
is no other life; but we must live it,
and we must not allow ourselves to be dried up by
the influence of the spirit of this world.
… In a civilization which has lost the meaning of
life, the most useful thing a Christian can do is to
live, and life understood from the point of
view of faith, has an extraordinary explosive force.
[emphasis mine] We are not aware of it, because we
only believe in ‘efficiency,’ and life is not
efficient. But this life alone can break the
illusions of the modern world by showing everyone
the utter powerlessness of a mechanistic view.
Are you
just “acting”, just spinning your wheels, going through
the motions?
Is your life on the path you imagined for yourself?
Do you feel as if you have you lost your vision?
Have you given up on your dreams of making a great
impact on your family, your community, your world?
Has your hope of leaving a valuable legacy on this earth
begun to fade?
If these things are true of you, do you want to change?
The great Jim Rohn learned a lesson from his mentor Mr.
Earl Shoaf that had an enormous impact on the rest of
his life. Mr. Shoaf said to Jim, “If you will change,
everything will change for you.”
Do you want to design your life—as far as it depends on
you—rather than continue to just “act”? Rather than
build some else’s dreams? Are you willing to change
whatever is necessary in order to accomplish this?
Then come along with me. Let’s live a “profound life”.
Let’s make a huge impact. Leave a legacy that touches
many lives.
